Chandigarh: In a major success, the Chandigarh Police have arrested two inter-state smugglers involved in many cases of narcotic drug peddling in Punjab and nearby areas on Tuesday night.
Two .30-bore pistols with 9 live cartridges, cash worth Rs 4.5 lakh, 171 gms of heroin, a SIM card of Dubai and 4 mobile phones seized
A team of police officials of Sector 39 Police Station, Chandigarh, laid a naka on the dividing road of Sectors 55 and 56. During the checking, the police party signalled a white Swift car to stop. Both car occupants tried to run away but the police team nabbed them. The accused have been identified as Pawan Kumar (27) and Raman Kumar (27), both natives of Chheharta, Amritsar, who were currently residing at Sunny Enclave, Kharar, Mohali.
On questioning, both the accused disclosed their names. On searching them, one .30-bore pistol with four live cartridges was seized from the possession of Pawan Kumar and another pistol of .30-bore along with five live cartridges was seized from Raman Kumar.
However, when the car was being searched, a polythene bag carrying 171 gms of heroin was also seized along with cash of Rs 4.5 lakh.
A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act has been registered at Sector 39 Police Station. According to police officials, during initial investigation a mobile SIM of Dubai, four mobile phones and multiple IDs were seized from the accused. The accused were produced in a local court on Wednesday which sent them in police remand.
It is learnt that both the accused are proclaimed offenders and were earlier booked by the Amritsar police in many cases of drug peddling. They were also booked at Chheharta police station, Makboolpur police station, Gharinda police station and in Jaipur.
