Chandigarh: The Captain Amarinder Singh-led state government is expected to take some important decisions in its first Cabinet meeting scheduled for Saturday.
For the meeting, the state government has prepared a 150-point agenda pertaining to reforms in governance, economic reforms and eliminating VIP culture among others, as learnt.
The main objectives of the new government would be to streamline expenditure, bring down revenue deficit and raise additional resources to put the state’s fiscal situation on track, shared Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.
Apart from a third-party audit of the Power Department, the Cabinet is also expected to authorise the government to come up with a white paper about the finances that the Congress government has inherited. The ‘systematic loot of state resources’ will also be part of the white paper.
It is learnt that the newly-elected Punjab Cabinet will also take the issue of farmers’ loans head on, as the debt waiver is the most propagated poll promise of the Congress.
According to information, Captain Amarinder Singh would order setting up a committee of experts for the purpose of assessing the total agricultural loan. An official in Agriculture Department termed the figure standing above Rs 30,000 crore.
The new Cabinet will conduct its first meeting on Saturday.
