Chandigarh: Duped by a Chandigarh-based travel agent, seven youth have been stranded in Thailand for the past over 40 days. The stranded youth are left with no money and are on the mercy of a certain Good Samaritan, there.
The victims are from Khanna and Chandigarh had have been identified as Iqbal Singh, Dilmanpreet Singh Mangat, Rashandeep Singh, Paramjit Singh, Pardeep Singh Gill, Bhawanpreet Singh and Bimalroop Singh.
The victims have lodged a complaint at Pattaya City Police station in Thailand on March 18, alleging that travel agent Gurjit Singh Grewal had duped them.
In their complaint, the victims have alleged that Grewal of Grewal Tours and Travels, a travel agency that has its office in Sector 34, Chandigarh, adjacent to the Regional Passport Office, duped and cheated them after taking Rs 1 lakh, each.
Accompanied by the youths, Grewal reached Pattaya on February 3 and checked in a hotel. Grewal deserted them in the hotel allegedly taking the money in pretext of getting the visa extended and went incommunicado after February 16.
The youth lodged the complaint with the police after all their efforts to search Grewal proved futile.Amardeep Singh, Foreign Police Volunteer (FPV), who works at Pattaya City Police Station has confirmed the case. The victims have also approached the Indian Embassy seeking help. DP
