Chandigarh: “It was the last fire by the miscreants that missed, else I had been dead,” said 40-year-old financer Karan Singh, who was allegedly shot at and injured by three miscreants at Burail, Sector 45, here on Wednesday night.
Recalling the incident with Daily Post, Singh said, “I was just heading to the market when I felt a hit in my left leg. I thought someone has hit me with a brick and then before I could understand, I was hit on the head with a gun butt.”
“I was shocked to see three men with a gun as I turned back. Then I ran to escape from assailants for around 700-800 metres but when I got tired I halted at a shop and fell down. The three men came behind and placed the gun on my head and hit me on my hand,” said Singh.
“When shot at right arm, I then again tried to hide beneath the counter at a tailor’s shop, but the accused then loaded the gun and shot again. However, the last fire by them didn’t hit me.”
“I and even the assailants thought that I received the bullet on my chest and I am dead now, but fortunately it was a missed fire,” added Singh.
In the meantime, the assailants escaped after local people raised the alarm. The police were called at the spot and the victim was rushed to the PGI where he was operated upon on Thursday.
The incident took place at around 9:20 pm when the financer was shot thrice by the assailants.
Old rivalry suspected from native village
The victim has suspected the involvement of a Chandigarh Police constable who is in Police Lines now due to bad health. However, the police are doubting his allegations and are verifying the fact.
“I have an old rivalry with a Chandigarh Police constable who also belongs to Panipat (Haryana) which is also my native town.
Brothers of the constable from Panipat may have sent the assailants to kill me as the assailants did not come with an intention of robbery,” said the victim.
CCTV shows three men with gun
