Chandigarh: The UT Administration will soon throw open the two auditoriums situated at Bal Bhawan for holding functions. Home Secretary Anurag Agarwal has directed the department concerned to revamp the auditoriums and start renting them out to people by February 15.
The two auditoriums, Open Air Theatre and Bal Bhawan Auditorium, would undergo a major revamp as per the requirements of the institutions desiring to hold functions at these venues. Both the venues would be governed by the Tagore Theatre management, said Agarwal.
He said, “Today we have inspected the two venues along with officers of the Social Welfare Department, the Engineering Department and other officers concerned and the directives have been issued to revamp the Open Air Theatre and the auditorium at Bal Bhawan.
The idea is to bring about an alternative for those institutions which cannot afford to hire Tagore Theatre. The directions have been given to ready the Open Air Theatre and Bal Bhawan Auditorium by February 15.”
He also said that at present other alternatives like Punjab Kala Bhawan and auditorium at the Museum were also overbooked and the small-time institutions or other art lovers were deprived of hiring the theatres.
The Open Air Theatre was established in 1982 after which the theatre has been dying its own death.
