Chandigarh :As tomorrow will be the last day of 2016, for the Chandigarh Education Department the year is ending on not-so-happy note as the entire year remained full of tussles among private schools, the Education Department and the Chandigarh parents’ association. The issue was profiteering by private schools.
Throughout the year, the Education Department seemed to be trying hard to put a full stop on the controversy by initiating the process of drafting a fee regulation policy but in front of the highhandedness of school managements, the department was portrayed as partial, prejudiced and powerless, leaving thousands of parents harassed.
Meanwhile, adding some achievements to its list, the Education Department in 2016 upgraded nine government schools to smart schools. Governor V.P. Singh Badnore inaugurated four new government schools with a promise to upgrade the city’s government schools’ status to compete with private ones.
The Director, School Education, remained busy in conducting surprise inspections and issuing warning notices. Starting from conducting several surprise inspections in private schools to check if these were making profiteering by forcing the parents to buy books, uniforms and other various stationery items from designated shops, though after that he also issued many warning notes but without any outcome.
After that with an aim of improving the infrastructure and teachers’ availability in government schools, the Director again conducted several surprise inspections.
