Chandigarh:After facing a flak for shoddy investigation, Chandigarh police on Wednesday arrested two persons, for shooting Khurdan village Sarpanch at Sector 38 West. Those arrested include Arshdeep and Tirath.
Satnam Singh, a resident of Khurdan village of Hoshiarpur was killed, owing to an old rivalry, outside gurdwara in sector 38, Chandigarh on April 9. Seven bullets were fired at him by three persons who fled in a Hyundai i20.
The duo arrested had been named by Satnam Singh on the way to hospital.
“ We have arrested Arshdeep and Tirath. The accused were produced in the court and we have taken four days remand of the duo for their involvement. Further investigation is under progress and a manhunt is on to nab the other accused,” said Eish Singhal, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chandigarh.
Both accused have been booked under section 302 (Murder) and 120 B (Punishment of criminal conspiracy) of IPC. However the other accused in the murder case are still absconding with the UT police grappling to trace the dreadful gangsters.
The family of slain Sarpanch stated that the cremation will take place on Friday at their ancestral village in Hoshiarpur. Earlier the family refused to cremate the body unless police nab the accused.
Deceased named his attackers on the way to hospital
It has been learnt that the injured Satnam, on his way to the hospital told Nirmal Singh, his driver and eye witness, the names of attackers. “He told me that Bobby, Arshdeep and Tirath had fired at him. They even hit him with a rod,” Nirmal told the police. Satnam was declared unfit by the doctors to record a statement.
Later, a video surfaced which showed Dilpreet Singh Baba, Harjinder Singh alias Akash and Harvinder Singh alias Rinda shooting at the victim.
Sarpanch was witness in a murder case
Police said that Satnam Singh was an eyewitness in the murder case of his brother Nishan Singh alias Shana of Khurdan village who was shot dead in July 2013, by rivals in Garhdiwala town.Sources also said that Satnam was to give testimony before court on April 30.Enmity dates back to 1993
“Charanjeet Singh Charni, a transporter had hired the accused to kill Satnam,” alleged Prince, brother of deceased Satnam Singh.“Enmity between the families dates back to 1993 when they got our father Sampooran Singh killed. His murder case was rendered untraced by police,” he added.
Police questioned gangster Jassi Kalwa.
A team of the UT police on Wednesday also visited Punjab to interrogate gangster, Jassi Kalwan, who was arrested on Tuesday by Ropar police. Kalwan is an accomplice of three dreaded criminals who had gunned down Sarpanch.Kalwan along with his accomplices Dilpreet Singh Baba, Harjinder Singh, alias Akash and Harvinder Singh alias Rinda, had allegedly killed Des Raj Singh, a resident of Bahman Majra village, near Nurpur Bedi on April 7. According to the sources, role of Kalwan is not yet confirmed in sarpanch’s murder.
Family of accused also met SSP
The family of both the accused, Arshdeep and Tirath also met SSP on Thursday following their arrest. The family claimed that both of them do not have any involvement in the case.
