Ludhiana: Around 7 per cent of population is suffering from depression which is mainly a point being raised on World Health Day which is being observed here on Friday. Different doctors have opined over the causes and symptoms of depression.
According to the official data, 58 million people are suffering from depression in different ways includes poverty, drugs, break ups, loss of near and dear ones which lead to different chronic diseases including diabetes, cancer and many more other diseases.
The proportion of depression has increased 15 folds in the past decade. Being a mental health problem people are hesitant to express their troubles or seek professional help, resulting in untoward consequences such as self-harm or suicide. 80% of the disease exists in developing countries, especially in their rural areas where the stigma associated with mental illness is rampant and also access to mental health services is almost non-existent.
While talking to prominent doctors of city, they have opined that this cause can only be treated after having health talks with confidence and with different other treatments. Former Indian Medical Association president Dr GS Grewal claimed that 1 person is committing suicide after 45 seconds which is very big issue in world.
Grewal further added that this is treatable cause and numerous patients’ visits city doctors due to this depression. Health talks with each other and parents should not put stress over the children.
Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh, urology and transplant surgery head at DMCH and also member of executive committee of medical council of India said, “The age falls 15-29 and above 50 ages are mainly person suffering from depression which is major cause in our World. Suicidal tendency is second communist cause”.
