Amritsar: District Amritsar unit’s coordinator of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Shetal Singh Chachowali and more than 50 of his supporters on Friday deserted the party and joined Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). They joined SAD in Majitha, a constituency in the district and met SAD candidate and Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who welcomed them into the party fold. Majithia also presented siropa (robe of honour) to Chachowali, who vowed to
work for SAD and to ensure his victory.
Later, talking to media persons, Chachowali alleged that they were fed up with the prevailing culture as well as the style of functioning of the BSP high-ups.
He asserted that the rank and file had no say in that party and only top brass had been dictating terms. The former BSP leader also flayed the BSP’s state leaders saying that they never came forward to redress the grievances of its members.
He further added that on the other hands, SAD always believed in alleviating the sufferings of its activists and serving the masses and each section of the society, irrespective od its caste, creed, and religion. Chachowali also pointed out that the SAD-BJP combine had ushed the state into an era of unprecedented development and made a record development during its ten years regime in Punjab.
The former BSP leader stated that SAD-BJP alliance would sweep the ensuing assembly polls of the state and would return to power for the third successive term in the state.
