Amritsar:With change of guard in state, the race for plum post of vice chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has begun. The educationists from Delhi and Punjab have intensified lobbying at the highest political level.
Dr Jaspal Singh, Secretary, University Grants Commission (UGC), Khalsa University, Amritsar’s Registrar Dr J S Dhillon and Khalsa College Principal Dr Mehal Singh are in the race for post which have fallen vacant following the resignation of Dr AS Brar.
Owing to his political clout Dr Jaspal Singh at the moment is ahead of lot. There are also talks of giving the charge to some senior level IAS officer from Delhi as new Congress government is concerned with unrest on the
Principal of local Khalsa College Dr Mehal Singh has also been exploiting some connections. On the other hand, the newly established Khalsa University’s Registrar, Dhillon, has also been making rounds to Chandigarh for lobbying to get the pivotal post.
Other important posts including that of Registrar, various Deans, Controller (Examinations), Director (Public Relations) are also lying vacant in GNDU as there had been ad hoc arrangements made by Dr Brar to run the varsity affairs.
