Patiala: A police party performing naka duty in this district came under attack as some car-borne persons tried to run them over but two cops saved their lives by jumping away from the barricades. The police party later gave chase to the car and got hold of two of its occupants while the third occupant managed to gav a slip to the police and fled away in the car.
According to the available reports, the incident happened in Samana sub-division where a police party headed by Sub-Inspector Harjinder Singh put up a naka near the Karhali village and started checking of the vehicles. Head Costable Jaswant Singh manning the barricade saw a vehicle coming towards them and he signalled it to stop for checking, but the occupants of the vehicle failed to apply brakes and tried to run the barricade down.
The head of the party chased the said vehicle and got hold of it and arrested two of the occupants, but all of a sudden the third unidentified person driving the vehicle sped away.
The police party then took into its custody two car occupants identified as Mandeep Singh, a resident of Thehri village under Patiala Sadar PolIce Station, and Manideep Singh, a resident of Ram Nagar village near SST Nagar in Patiala.
Later a FIR under Sections 307 and 34 of the IPC was registered against two identified persons and third unidentified driver of the vehicle at the Samana Sadar Police Station. The police said that case has been registered and the further investigation in the case is on and they hope to get the third accused soon.
