Ferozepur: The district Ferozepur police claimed to solve the one-month-old mystery of assault on a Congress leader Tarsem Lal Chaudhry General Secretary of Congress by some miscreants who had opened fire on him to kill him when he was returning from an election campaign for Kulbir Singh Zira the Congress candidate from Zira assembly constituency late on January 11, in which he had a narrow escape, but his vehicle had been damaged badly with the attack of baseball bats and other weapons.
Addressing a press conference, SP (D) Dharamveer Singh said that on January 11, some miscreants attacked the state general secretary of Congress and former president of Nagar Panchayat Makhu Tarsem Chaudhry with baseball bats and iron rods and opened fire, when he was returning home after campaigning for Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira.
In his statement Tarsem Chaudhry alleged that he was returning home with his driver after campaigning for Zira but when they reached near village Bhutiwala some people who had been waiting on the way and attacked his vehicle with rods and baseball bats. Meanwhile, another car that had been following him also joined the assailants and started firing on him but due to the alertness of his driver, they escaped from there and went to the residence of his friend Sukhchain Singh.
The police had registered a case and police had constituted different teams to solve the mystery and arrest the accused. During investigation, the police arrested Pawan Kumar, Mohit Kumar and Ranjiv residents of Muktsar and sent them to Central Jail Ferozepur, whereas other accused Sandeep Kumar aka Sonu, resident of Kot Isse Khan, Pargat Singh Pagga, resident of Boone had been arrested near the court complex Faridkot and Manpreet Singh Mandu, resident of Sammewali district Muktsar had been arrested from Sammewali and Amar Palta, Gurwinder Singh aka Dauli and Rajan aka Raju, resident of Kot Isse Khan had been arrested from Kot Isse Khan. Police had also recovered the weapons .12 bore pistol and .315 bore rifle which they had deposited with the Pappu Gun House Kot Isse Khan after using in the assault. According to the police, that during preliminary investigations it had come to light that they had been involved in many cases of looting, grabbing lands, and killing for money like crimes in the region.
After arrest, the police presented them in the court and the court sent the accused to the police custody on seven-day remand.
