Hoshiarpur: The Hoshiapur police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the blind murder case of a youth with the arrest of the main accused in the case.
On February 11, a half burnt body of a youth was traced in Sherpur Bahtiyan village in the district leading to panic in the area. The deceased youth was identified as Gagan alias Gogi (age around 22-23 years), a resident of Daada village who used to work as a cook in marriages.
A police party laid a naka on Chintpurni Road near Saleran village and arrested the accused Ram Dhan, a resident of nearby Thathlan village on February 14. He was arrested from Gagret tehsil in Una district.
Addressing a press conference, SSP Hoshiarpur Harcharan Singh Bhullar said that during investigation, the accused confessed that on the night of February 9, the duo met over drinks and later indulged in a heated exchange of words over some issue.
“In a fit of rage, Ram Dhan strangulated Gagan’s throat and thought him to be dead. He carried him on his shoulders and considering him to be dead, burnt him with cement sacks and eucalyptus leaves in the fields of Sherpur Bahtiyan village. Later, he buried him,” the SSP said.
SSP Bhullar said that when Ram Dhan burnt the youth, he dragged the body to some distance and dug up the fields with a spade and buried him. The accused was presented in the court and a police remand was taken to investigate the matter further, the SSP added.
