Hoshiarpur: Keeping in view the pending public cases during assembly elections 2017, a first-of-its-kind ‘Police-Public darbar’ was organised by SSP Hoshiarpur at sub division level in the district. Punjab went to polls on February 4.

The special camp was conducted in the wake of police staff remaining busy due to election duties in the recently held elections. A similar such police-public darbar would also be held in other sub divisions of Hoshiarpur on February 19.
SSP Hoshiarpur Harcharan Singh Bhullar conducted these camps at four sub divisions namely Dasuya, Tanda, Hoshiarpur and Garhshankar where as many as 506 complaints were addressed on the spot. As many as 561 parties with different complaint attended the police-public darbar.
As per the data shared by the district police, 92 cases were settled in Dasuya, 82 in Tanda, 283 in Hoshiarpur and 49 in Garhshankar sub division. The police also highlighted that as many as 1019 parties were called out of which 561 came. Further, those parties who could not attend the police-public were now asked to approach the respective sub divisions on Tuesday.
The SSP stated that as police officials and staff remained busy in VVIP and other special duties in the polls, majority public complaints could not be addressed. “This police-public darbar was an attempt to provide assistance to the affected parties at their respective sub divisions,” he stated.
Bhullar said that through this unique initiative not only the public was able to approach the concerned police officials and staff on the spot; it also saved them from agents and touts influencing their cases. “It also saved the precious time of the public as well as the police”, the SSP shared.
The Hoshiarpur police informed that upcoming police-public meet would be held at PWD guest house in Mukerian, sub division rural at White Castle Palace in Pandori Khajur village on Tanda road, sub division Chabbewal in new government hospital and at district police headquarter in Hoshiarpur. “The affected parties were requested to bring along their documents for early and timely redressal”, the SSP added.
