Ludhiana: Amarjit Singh (18), 2nd year student of Graduation at S.C.D. Government College Ludhiana has made everyone proud by winning the coveted Voice of Punjab Award, the most popular show of PTC Punjabi on 12 February.
He was adjudged the best singer from amongst the six finalists by judges who included famous singers like Manmohan Waris, Malkeet Singh, Master Saleem and music directors like Sachin Ahuja and Gurmeet
Singh. He was felicitated by the Principal Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu and other teachers of the college Principal Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu on his victory said, “We are proud of Amarjit Singh, as this is not only the victory of his own but also the victory of the college, his family and importantly, the city.
It’s a proud moment for the city, as a common college going student wins such a marvelous title and with this, he is also getting many opportunities even from abroad. I wish a bright future to Amarjit Singh.” Amarjit Singh while talking to Daily Post said, “Hailing from a humble background and having practically no formative formal training in singing, I took my rejection seriously when I didn’t get selected in the ‘Aawaz Punjab Di ‘ on MH1 another popular contest. After that, I took it as a challenge and usually went to the canal side to rehearse for the PTC contest.
My faith in my own singing ability, the firm belief of my family together with the training imparted by my coach Rajwant Singh made my resolute in honing my singing talent as well as stage performance which won the hearts of the audience present in the studio as well as in all our
Punjab.” Further he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his parents, two elder brothers, teachers- Professor Paramjit Punjabi, Paramjit Singh, Harwinder Joshi and importantly, Dr Nirmal Singh Jaura, Director, Youth Welfare, PU, Chandigarh.
“I set a hat trick record by winning the state level Shabad Gayan competition consecutively for three years when I was in 9th standard. Last year I was a part of the College Shabad Team and was awarded the best singer in the Zonal Youth festival. I also sang ‘Boliyan’ as a member of the College Bhangra team which won the Zonal and Inter Zonal Youth festival competitions. My love for singing is such that I also performed regularly in Jagrans”, shared Singh. During the journey of Voice of Punjab, the thing which indirectly taught me the most was the comments of judges. Today I am very happy with a prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- by PTC Punjabi for which he is very grateful to Raji, M Shinde, PTC CEO. While interacting with Daily Post the main thing which Amarjit Singh said was, “I didn’t establish myself, I have established my turban.”
