Jalandhar:Aimed at hassle free procurement of paddy, district observer, Secretary Water Supply and Sanitation department A K Sinha on Saturday said that the state government was committed to procure the yield from the farmers on time and provide them payment.
Sinha paid a visit to Nakodar, Mehatpur, Talwan, Bilga and Phillaur grain markets on the periphery of the district. He said that the state government was committed to procure paddy from the farmers at the fixed rates.
The district observer also said directed the procurement agency officials to ensure that paddy was lifted and procured well on time. “Those grain markets, where paddy lifting and procurement was slow, the officials should ensure their presence and timely work”, he added.
Interacting with the farmers, Sinha also ensured that they did not face any problems. He assured the farmers that they would be assisted by the state government in case of any procurement blues.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kishor Yadav said that till date 237575 metric tonne of paddy was procured as compared to 182855 metric tonne of paddy procured last year.
The DC urged the farmers to bring the paddy to the market after drying the moisture content in the yield.
He said that PUNGRAIN has procured 65018 metric tonne of paddy, Markfed has 46991 metric tonne, PUNSUP has procured 54070 metric tonne, Punjab State Ware House Corporation has procured 21470 metric tonne, Punjab Agro has procured 18753 and FCI procured 31273 metric tonne of paddy till date.
The district observer was accompanied by ADC Gurmeet Singh, Narinder Singh District Food and Supplies Controller, Subhash Kumar District Manager FCI, Ramandeep Singh District Manager Markfed and others.
