Jalandhar:As Congress is all set to announce final list of candidates, Valmiki and Mazhbi Sikh community reminded Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh to keep his word and allot four out of total eight reserved seats in doaba region to them in upcoming assembly elections.
The community leaders reminded Amarinder that in a rally held at Sultanpur Lodhi last year, he had promised them that the party will give a fair representation to Valmiki and Mazhbi Sikhs in the polls.
“Till now, Congress has been too short of fulfilling this promise due to which a widespread resentment was prevailing in the community. Valmiks and Mazhbis have always rallied behind Congress strongly but unfortunately the party had been shying away from giving adequate representation to them”, said president central Valmiki Sabha Punjab Satish Salhotra.
The community leaders said that though every other party including SAD and AAP has allotted tickets to the Valmiki and Mazhbis in dalit dominated Doaba, Congress has failed to announce any candidate from the community in the region.
Staking claim on four out of the total eight reserved seats in Doaba, the community members reiterated their demand that Congress must allocate Phagwara, Sham Chaurasi, Adampur constituencies to them.
“Congress high command should also review Kartarpur assembly seat candidate and allot this seat to the community. Our leaders can win these seats very comfortably”, they said.
