Ludhiana: Despite the fact councilor of ward number 31 raised the issue of shifting dump and sand trolleys around the Buddha Nullah in the General House meeting last month and Mayor of city Harcharan Singh gave orders also of shifting dump soon under the new policy of installing the compactors but nothing has been done till date in this regard. The city residents are still living in hell with fear of outbreak of diseases.
The dump adjoining to the Buddha Nullah Haibowal is getting bigger each day and has made life of the city residents deteriorated. Earlier, the city residents protested number of times but their problem has not been sorted out by now. Karaj Singh, President of the residents said that they are sick and tired of complaining to councillor of the area and earlier, Commissioner over this issue, as no one does anything to put off the dump and sand trolleys away from area, which is causing problem for residents.
Neither the dump has been shifted from the spot nor the sand trolleys by authorities till date. It is pertinent to mention that residents of ward number 31 remained up in arms against authorities for almost a month and authorities have turned blind eye to their problems. They alleged that tractor-trailers of sand had been parked right on bridge in an illegal manner and law enforcing agencies were allegedly hand in gloves with the owners of tractor-trailers. The area is slowly turning into the garbage dump as litter can be seen scattered all over the bridge, not just causing inconvenience but also putting residents at risk of many diseases.
The residents complained that garbage is scattered all over the bridge and due to these problems, even the road along Nullah has not been carpeted till date. Karaj Singh on behalf of residents said that garbage lifting agencies rarely visit area. Municipal Corporation authorities do not bother about such issues where necessary instructions are needed to be given to agency to lift garbage on time.
