Ludhiana:The central board examinations are approaching near and the stress is increasing in children. This not only creates stress in children rather this exam season put parents on stress mode. This can not only lead to stressful sleep for children rather can also cause high blood pressure and depression.
The examination time is not only for students appearing for board exams but this examination time is for parents too, to wake them up, study hard to achieve good marks. Pressure on children for getting good marks is a prestige issue for parents these days, as they too have peer and family pressure burdening.
Ritika Trehan a mother said, “Every student is not same, so at this time, it is the responsibility of school and parents to nurture the student’s potential instead of forcing them to get high percentage. All parents should be friendly with their children. Parents and mentors should act as confidence boosters at this time.”
While talking to Dr Gupta, a psychiatrist about the ways to relieve the stress he added, “It’s really important to curb the pressure during board exams. First thing is to maintain a regular sleep pattern, then one must have the power of positive thinking, practice relaxation techniques, planning study routine, break free from distractions, one must have less intake of caffeine, must to do daily exercise for 5 to 10 minutes and when a child is exhausted he should listen to music which can make him feel relaxed.”
Kulwinder Singh a parent said, “My son is preparing for 12th boards and we never pressurize him to study all the time but want him to study with full concentration.
Over burdening the kids and pressurising them to score the highest marks can lead to some bad situations like making them feel depressed. So it’s good time to behave normal with them and after their study time let them enjoy for few hours which can be best stress boosters for them.”
Gurleen Kaur, a counselor at a city private school said, “Despite of giving so much stress to kids it’s the time to sit with them and give them some kind of relaxation and make them talk with you what they are going through and what problems they are facing in a particular subject. Don’t force them to cram the things. Behave natural and don’t say again and again to study all the time.
