Ludhiana:Following the complaint of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding the entry of unauthorised persons in strongroom of Gill constituency, a team of Election Commission of India (ECI) visited Ludhiana and checked the security of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) on Thursday.
While checking the strongroom and after the meeting with candidates as well as officials, the ECI team expressed satisfaction over the security of EVMs and claimed that nothing was found objectionable.
The EC team said that the allegations of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were baseless as they have found no proof of entering of unauthorised persons in strongroom. EC team also checked the footage of CCTV cameras
installed at strongroom of Gill constituency and later refuted the allegations of AAP.
EC team comprising Narinder Chauhan, Chief Election officer of Himachal Pradesh and Additional Election Officer Rajesh Kumar. The team held meeting with Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat, Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh, additional DC Apneet Riyaat, DCP Mandeep Singh Sidhu and returning officers of all constituencies of Ludhiana district. The polling agents of all candidates were also present during the meeting.
Chauhan said that the report was sent to Chief Election commissioner regarding the security arrangements made at strongroom. Chauhan assured that the EVMs were under three-tier security and EC will ensure safety of voting machines. Apart from cops of Punjab Police, Paramilitary force were deployed outside strongrooms and moreover the CCTV cameras were also installed.
He further said that candidate can check the security of strongroom on daily basis after approaching returning officers. DC Ravi Bhagat also visited all the strongrooms of district and checked the strongrooms.
