Ludhiana:PAUTA’s (Punjab Agricultural University Teachers’ Association) protest against the University administration has entered the second day. The executive staged a protest opposite the administrative Block, Thapar Hall, from 12:00 to 1:00pm.
Dr D K Sharma, Secretary, PAUTA highlighted the rampant adhocism in the University. Several of the top administrative posts at college and university level are lying vacant and the normal routine work is suffering. In the absence of regular appointees, the additional charges are being given purely based on proximity to the Vice Chancellor.
Dr K S Sangha, President, PAUTA while talking to Daily Post claimed, “We are fighting for our demands from last two years, as at that time when we presented our demands, no fruitful results were out. One month ago, we presented the same demands to VC but till the date all is in vain. We will keep protesting till VC will call us to discuss the matter and make an appropriate decision for our demands but right now despite second day of protest, VC didn’t act on our demands.”
PAUTA President, while addressing the gathering of teachers from across the colleges rued that the VC is completely oblivious to the sentiments and misery of the faculty. The University is being run as a personal fiefdom, at the whims and fancies of the VC. The prestige of the members of statutory committee is being questioned and decisions are being bulldozed upon the faculty without proper and sound deliberations. New courses (degree and diplomas) are being started under self supporting mode turning the University as money churning enterprises rather than centers of learning and acquiring knowledge. PAUTA strongly resents that Kisan Melas are being held deliberately on holidays for no obvious advantage though causing great mental agony to the faculty and staff by depriving them of quality time with families.
The University Employees’ Union executive participated in the protest and has pledged support to PAUTA in its demands. In solidarity with teachers, the executive of the University Employees Union sat along with the PAUTA executive at the site and protested against the dictatorial and whimsical attitude of the Vice Chancellor.
