Residents protest against opening of liquor vend in Ludhiana. The residents of Bal Singh Nagar road in Basti Jodhewal area protested against the opening of liquor vend on Friday. The large number of residents opposed the opening of liquor vend in residential area.
The residents alleged that the shop where liquor vends was about to be opened belongs to son of Ex Police official. Area councilor Ashwani Sharma also reached the protesters but the area residents were reluctant to lift the protest and continued their protest against the opening of liquor vend.
The situation turned tense when the protesting women broken the liquor bottles. Sensing the situation heavy police force deployed on the spot.
Inder Singh Aujla, who was leading the protest said that the area is semi residential and the liquor vend will cause problem for area residents mainly women. Several leaders including Randhir Singh Sivia, former councilor Harbans Lal Fanta also tried to pacify the protesters but no avail.
Aujla said that they will approach Deputy Commissioner and concerned authorities against the opening of liquor vend.
SHO of Police station Basti Jodhewal has called the protesters and owner of liquor vend for a meeting to find a solution but the protesters wanted the closure of liquor vend. Till the filing of this report the protest continued in the area.
