Batala: Congress suffered a major setback in this border town when the PPCC permanent invitee and state secretary Youth Congress and their supporters resigned from the Congress in protest against Congress ticket given to their close relative.
Besides, Block Youth Congress president and district president NSUI also resigned from Congress.
In a big setback to Congress candidate from Dera Baba Nanak, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, his elder brother and permanent invitee of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Inderjeet Singh Randawa on Tuesday resigned from the party after his son was denied ticket by the Congress high command.
Inderjeet’s son Deepinder Randhawa, who was holding the post of Secretary, Punjab Youth Congress along with 294 office-bearers of Punjab Youth Congress resigned from their post.
Prominent among them were Jatinder kumar Gora, President, Dera Baba Nanak Youth Congress and Gursimranjeet Singh Randhawa, District President, NSUI.
In a massive show of strength, Inderjeet Singh along with hundreds of Congress workers on Tuesday held a meeting at local resort where they announced their mass resignation from the party.
Addressing the gathering, Inderjeet said that he would surely fight the elections from Dera Baba Nanak constituency and the gathering present in the hall was clear proof of his victory.
“I am in touch with third front parties and within couple of days, I will make formal announcement of joining any political front,” he added.
Youth leader Deepinder said that he applied for Congress ticket from Fatehgarh Churian and Dera Baba Nanak constituencies. During that time, he had fulfilled all the condition defined by the PPCC but in both the constituencies, the ticket was denied to him.
“Even, we meet Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh and raised this issue with him but yielded no result. Things need to be changed. If the party high command did not consider the working of the Congress workers, it will meet same fate in Punjab as they are facing in rest of country,” he added.
