Ludhiana: Everyone in the city and around is quite curious to know about the up comings elections in Punjab. Every sector, from the doctors to housewives and teachers, all of them are expecting something good out of these elections this time. From taking city to newer heights and controlling the problem of traffic, residents have huge demands on the list.
Daily Post spoke to a few city doctors to know what they are expecting from these elections and what changes they actually want to see in the city and society as a whole.
Dr Narotam Dewan
The drug trade in Punjab will be fished by new rulers. This has destroyed the future of millions of Punjabi youth and benefited just few. This drug mafia must be smashed. Health services must be updated to international standards. One hundred big hospitals should be opened, existing should be improved, 2000 doctors and 3000 nurses be recruited. All MLA candidates should provide an affidavit that if they will not fulfill the promises made in their manifesto then they will resign and should make their property and account statements public.
Dr Navjot Singh
Most probably it is going to be a hung assembly this time with no political party getting clear majority in Punjab. Public is also more aware now and cannot be fooled repeatedly.
We may see some dark horses winning the race this time. Otherwise, I personally want to see a few modern methods, equipment and manpower to be added in police departments to counter increasing incidents of crime. Government Schools, teachers, computers, and audiovisual aids must be added substantially.
Dr Pardeep Sharma
I wish to see the political maturity of Punjabi folks in the form of health and education as main political agenda. Let Government do its job and let social problems be solved by civil society.
We should not absolve our selves of our individual, familial and social responsibilities and expect everything out of Government. People get the Government that they deserve.
Dr Guahar Vatsyayan
The Punjab Government over the years, it seemed had taken their hands off health sector of the state.
Instead of partnering themselves with private hospitals, Government should think of improving the facilities in Government hospitals and dispensaries. Similarly, the new Government should also now pay heed towards AYUSH sector as the central Government is doing.
They can make Punjab the next medical tourist destination by bringing up Ayurveda centers as Punjab is the birth place of Ayurveda.
As Punjab has huge NRI population and can be tapped by improving the AYUSH sector and even by creating awareness in general public.
