Ludhiana (Alamgir): 47-year-old woman Balwinder Kaur, an accused in sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara of Village Ghawaddi, was shot dead outside Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Alamgir, 15-Km from Ludhiana on Tuesday.
The accused called the woman on pretext of helping her in the case and killed her. The accused managed to escape from the spot on the motorcycle towards village Alamgir.
On being informed, the Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, Jatinder Singh Aulakh led by heavy police force reached the spot and initiated investigation in the case. The police have registered case against two persons and one accused was identified as Gurpreet Singh of Village Jagowal in the Sangrur district.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Surinder Mohan said that with the help of CCTV footage and intelligence agencies one of the accused has been identified and several teams were formed for the arrest of accused.
The motive behind the killing will be cleared after the arrest of the accused, said ACP while adding that a case has been registered at Police Station Dehlon under Section 302 (murder) of the PC and various sections of the Arms Act.
Aulakh said that they have got vital clues and the accused will be arrested shortly. According to information, the woman was arrested in the month of October last year. She was accused of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at gurdwara of village Ghawaddi. Kaur was released on bail in the month of December.
Ranjodh Singh, a son of deceased, said that on Monday evening her mother received phone call from some unidentified person who offered help in the case. On Tuesday morning, he along with his mother reached Gurdwara Manji Sahib at Alamgir in a three-wheeler where a baptised Sikh turned there and offered help. The accused travelled in three-wheeler and talked with his mother for around half an hour. In the meantime, another accused on motorcycle turned there and fired bullet on the woman following which she died and the accused managed to flee towards Alamgir village.
