Luhdiana: Municipal Corporation failed to conduct the auction of 80 unipoles which are being used illegally. When the model code of conduct was enforced before the Vidhan Sabha elections, the MC’s agreement with the SAD-BJP government ended in January but the civic body have not made any effort to conduct the auction of 80 unipoles to date.
The same unipoles that were installed for promoting the achievements of the former ruling government last year are now being used illegally by some Congress leaders to highlight their own achievements.
As the municipal corporation has not signed a fresh agreement with any firm to use these unipoles, some political leaders are using them for publicity and without any permission from the civic body.
A Congress leader has displayed his picture with senior Congress leaders and MLAs on a unipole on Rani Jhansi Road to thank all Ludhiana citizens for voting the Congress government to power in Punjab.
On Monday, the MC had removed unauthorized flexes of Congress leaders from two unipoles on Ferozepur Road. Apart from this, unauthorized political hoardings were installed on government properties at different places but the officials concerned have conveniently turned a blind eye to these violations.
Secretary of MC Jasdev Singh Sekhon informed that they had already removed flexes of Congress from two unipoles on Ferozepur Road. He claimed, “We didn’t permit to display the flexes on unipoles. Strict action will be taken against other unipole if being used without permission. A file regarding the plan to conduct an auction of unipoles is already been sent by us to the higher authorities and decision on this will be taken only by them.”
Gurpreet Gogi, District Congress Committee (urban) president said, “MC will surely take strict action of anyone from political party violates the law. It is the foremost duty of MC to conduct an auction of the unipoles to generate revenue. Few more issues will be raised in the next House Meeting of so bring more clarity towards the work of MC.”
