Patiala: Punjab Cabinet Minister for Forests Sadhu Singh Dharamsot on Wednesday urged the Forest Department officials to act without any further delay for the removal of the encroachments from the forest lands in the state and he also asked them to get plantation over the vacated lands to increase the level of greenery too.
Dharamsot was here to preside over a high-level meeting of the department officials and it was attended among others by the state’s Chief Conservator of Forests Kuldeep Kumar.
The Minister also stated on this occasion that the state government is fully committed to un-earth the forces behind the smuggling of Khair wood from the state and it will not allow anybody to play with the forest policies.

It may be mentioned here that in the recent past smuggling of the Khair wood was reported from the region of Anandpur Sahib belt as one truck load of Khair wood was seized by the police and also 40 quintal of Khair wood was also recovered from Samla village.
Taking about the unearthing of the Khair wood scandal in the state, the minister said that as the smuggling of the khair wood is not possible without the involvement of the forest department officials so taking action the state government has placed under suspension one range officer, one block officer and one forest guard of the concerned area and also police cases have been registered against some of the traders and contractors involved in the wood business of the concerned region as well.
