Patiala: The two-member team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday visited here on the instructions of the ECI to probe the EVM tampering issue, against whom AAP had raised its voice and complained to ECI on it.
After the conclusion of the visit, the team gave a clean chit to the Patiala district administration over the issue saying that every arrangement done to keep the EVMs in the strongrooms were found out to be in right order.
The two-member probe team of ECI, including Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Himachal Pradesh Narinder Chauhan and NCT, Delhi’s Additional Electoral Officer Rajesh Kumar reached here late in the afternoon and held meetings with the leaders of the different political parties in the Circuit House.
Later, the team also paid visit to the strongrooms especially where the EVMs of Nabha (Reserve) assembly constituency were stored and all the apprehensions of the leaders of AAP were also resolved. The leaders also felt satisfied over the initiative of the district administration.
Whereas the Deputy Commission cum District Electoral Officer Ramveer Singh told the team that instead of two-tier security arrangements here, the administration has introduced three-tier security arrangements. He also told the team that AAP leaders without going into details of the stored EVMs unnecessarily raised the matter even as they have tried to explain to them and convince them by showing all the EVMs.
It may be mentioned here that AAP’s candidate from Nabha (reserve) assembly seat Gurdev Singh Mann raised the matter of tampering of EVMs when the district administration informed through one notice all the candidates about shifting of some old EVMs to other places and also invited them to the place. He also put his lock on the gate of the room where the said EVMs were stored and then complained about the matter to the ECI too.
The ECI, taking a serious note of it, sent the probe team to visit for spot inspection of the place and talk to the complainants as well and file a report over it.
