At least half a dozen top posts are lying vacant in the Municipal Corporation of the Chief Minister’s home town, Patiala. As a result, the development work has slow down. In the absence of top brass, the income of the municipal corporation has also got a setback and the salary the MC staff is released at least two weeks late every month.
Highly placed sources in the MC revealed that the posts of the Joint Commissioner, Secretary, Health Officer, Superintendent Engineer, Municipal Town Planner and senior Town Planner are lying vacant. Though Patiala is the home town of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and he represents Patiala Urban assembly constituency nothing has been done to fill these vacant posts.
Sources claim that till the MC was having a Joint Commissioner then the income of the MC improved a lot as the Joint Commissioner periodically takes the review meetings of all branches and inquire about the progress in each of the branch.
Interestingly, after the transfer of SE Harkiran Singh from here nobody was appointed in his place and it affected the development work. The work of building branch also came to a standstill with the posts of Municipal Town Planner and senior Town Planner fallen vacant. Because of this, illegal buildings in the royal city are coming up with a faster pace.
Sources said that these vacant posts have also affected the income of the corporation. Maps are not cleared and so the people are constructing their domestic and commercial buildings without depositing their requisite fees with the MC. Sources said that the state government has transferred the Commissioner of the MC too and new incumbent so far has not assumed the charge.
