Ludhiana: Around 155 FIRs were registered by the police of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited in first quarter of the 2017 year against the power consumer violators who were caught red handed under meter tampering and kundi connection in central zone. In central zone, there are 19 divisions where different cases of meter tampering and kundi connection come at police station of PSPCL. However, station house officer Suresh Kumar of PSPCL claimed that around 155 FIRs were registered against the violators.
However, different teams are made only to check the violations of power consumers as PSPCL is suffering loss in crores only due to power wastage at different areas in Punjab. Some of the employees in department on requesting anonymity claimed that only targeted violations are being checked as many of the violations are being ignored.
According to the police officials, there are seven executive officers in different parts of Ludhiana district and all the power consumers’ violations cases go to anti-power theft offices. From January, regular checking was conducted by different officers.
Enforcement wing Superintendent Engineer Kuldeep Singh said, “Different teams have been formed only to check violations by the power consumers and challans are done according to the theft of the consumer. However, checking would remain same in upcoming days”.
However, PSPCL has also started the drive of collecting the defaulting amount as East circle has collected defaulted amount of around Rs. 10 crore and 51,984 were cut down in East circle. More than 30 crores were collected as defaulting amount in Ludhiana from different circles.
When contacted Gurpreet Singh executive engineer Sundar Nagar said, “The drive of disconnecting power connections and collecting default amount is on and power consumers should pay their dues as soon as possible so that they should not suffer from any problem”.
