Patiala : The acting Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, has initiated process by adopting austerity measures to get varsity out of financial mess and cut down unwanted expenses.
V-C Anurag Verma gave approval to the university’s budget for 2017-18 with a deficit of Rs 185 crore and said no to filling of proposed positions of technical assistants.
Sources said that Verma has put on scanner all the department’s and is trying to figure out the deficit department wise.
The findings indicated that three department’s of the university are regularly adding to it’s debt and are not contributing at all.
The department’s include Arts Department, Science Department and Correspondence Courses Department.
On the other hand different department’s of varsity demanded to fill 5o post’s of Technical Assistant’s which would have added extra burden of Rs 60 crore but Verma outrightly ignored the demand.
The committee formed to cut down expenses is expected to submit its report soon and Verma may come down harsh on the people associated with unwanted expenditure.
The Adhoc Committee again raised the matter concerning the re-employed teachers and non teaching staff and asked for immediate sacking.
The Convenor of the committee Avtar Singh Tari said that if the university had filed its reply in time then the case may be saved from adjournment to April 27.
