Mohali: Mohali police claimed to have seized 160 kg raw gold on Tuesday evening. The police arrested three persons. The value of seized gold was estimated to be worth Rs 21 crore.
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Vijay Kumar, Surjeet Singh and Rajesh Kumar and were carrying the precious metal in Hyundai Creta bearing registration number HP-55-B-4455. They were stopped at the police check-post near Bhankarpur village.
On searching the vehicle, the police recovered the bounty in the form of slabs from the boot of the car. DSP city-II Gagandeep Singh Bhullar said, “Three persons have been arrested and charged under Section 420 and 120-b of the Indian Penal Code for smuggling 160 kg of raw gold. The Excise and Taxation Department officials were called for and they have estimated the gold price amounting to Rs 21 crore. The accused were coming from Delhi and heading for Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.”
The police also said that they claimed to be working for some jewellers shop in Hamirpur and the gold belonged to the jeweller. All three accused will be produced in the court on Wednesday, said the police.

The accused were coming in car from Delhi and were heading for Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh when they were caught.
