Mohali: A month has passed since demonetization was announced by the government but the queues outside the banks and ATMs haven’t shortened, neither has the suffering lessened. In Mohali city public is witnessed outside ATMs not only in daytime but in night also.
Daily post correspondent visited few ATMs in Mohali to know the ground situation post demonetization. In phase-7 bank square where people were standing in queues to withdraw cash. The people waiting said the bank’s ATM was closed since the last 4 days and now due to holidays again ATMs are out of cash.
“The government had claimed that the situation would improve within few weeks but the situation on the ground shows that a common man is still bearing the brunt of demonetization.” Says Pratham Sharma of phase-2 Mohali.
Ruing non-availability of cash, Monika Verma, an private company employee waiting outside at an ATM on HDFC bank, said: “We are mostly getting only Rs 2,000 notes, which is almost of no use. What we want is more of Rs 500 and Rs 100 notes.”
At least 20 people each were seen in queue outside the four ATMs in City at night. A long queue was seen outside ICICI bank phase-1. Across Petrol pumps in City, most of them say they had no money. Some of them pasted a note written ‘No Cash’ outside.
