Mohali: The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) is celebrated its Foundation Day on Wednesday at NIPER convention centre. Prof Ashok Kumar Ganguli, Director, Institute of Nano Science & Technology, NIPER, was the chief guest of the function and delivered Foundation Day lecture on “Nano-science: A truly interdisciplinary science”. Prof Harkishan Singh, Padma Shree Awardee was also present on the occasion.
Prof P V Bharatam, Director (officiating) of the institute presented the annual report of the institute highlighting various achievements in the area of education, research, placement, patents, technology transfer etc.
He said that last year 210 masters students and 44 MBA (Pharm) students were awarded degrees. Till date 1,958 masters, 485 MBA (Pharm.) and 244 PhD degrees were awarded to the students. He further said among various awards NIPER has been awarded first prize amongst 116 organisations (production, training and research institutes) in tricity for commendable work in the field of Rajbhasha Hindi.
He further said that in December 2016 Prof V M Katoch, Chairman, Board of Governors and Former DG, ICMR , inaugurated Centre for Pharmaceutical Innovation and Entrepreneurship for incubation of StartUps to promote pharma and related sectors.
Prof Ashok Kumar Ganguli, Director, Institute of Nano Science and Technology, NIPER while delivering foundation day lecture on “Nano-science: A truly interdisciplinary science” said that Nano-science is an interdisciplinary area which overlaps across many disciplines starting from core sciences (physics, chemistry and biology) to materials science, engineering and medicine.
He said Nano-science can be observed around us in living and non-living objects. In his presentation, he dwelled on the multidisciplinary aspects of nano-science, the design of specific nanostructures with applications from water purification to medicine.
The institutes were initially registered as a society under the societies registration act on February 15, 1991. The main objective of the Institute is to nurture and promote quality and excellence in pharmaceutical education and research. The institute concentrates on courses leading to master’s and doctoral programmes in the field of pharmaceutical sciences, technology and management.
