Singh has been facing cases related to corruption and disproportionate assets. Singh had served on important posts in Punjab and the cases in question are related during the period of 1997-2002.
It is pertinent to mention that1991-batch retired IAS officer Mandeep Singh had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. FIR against him had been registered after year and a half by VB.
FIR mentions that Singh had amassed more than half-a-dozen properties during his service. Apart from two residential properties in Chandigarh’s Sector 8 and Sector 34, his family owns a hotel near Chandigarh. The family also owns over 150 acres of land in Chamkaur Sahib.
According to sources his family also tried to sell some of these properties during the course of investigation and on at least one occasion, the officer allegedly tried to use his position to arrange for a loan from a bank for someone who showed interest in buying the hotel.
On the other hand Mandeep Singh denied the allegations and said that the cases against him are part of political vendetta and will expose politicians who are behind this after assembly election results.
