Nawanshahr: After months of hectic schedule, although the poll contestants here were found in a highly relaxed mood, meeting and thanking their workers and supporters for all the hard work put in by them in their extra-long election campaigning this time, yet getting ready with their blueprints for further course of action after their expected win was also on their minds.
SAD contestant from Nawanshahr, Jarnail Singh Wahid, who was made to start hard work months before other contestants in his capacity as the constituency in-charge, found the day doubly refreshing as it was also the birthday of his grandson. Apart from celebrating the birthday, he spent the day meeting and thanking his workers. “My current schedule of meeting my constituents and solving their problems will continue till the election results and even after, it will remain the same,” he said, adding that he would continue to serve the people with humility with thrust on maintaining brotherhood and communal harmony under all circumstances.
The young Congress contestant Angad Saini too found the day quite refreshing though there was no let-up in the number of people, mostly his workers and supporters, who had come to see him to apprise him of various developments concerning the polling day. Angad, apart from acknowledging and thanking them for their support and hard work, was seen seeking their assessment of the poll outcome. “I have deputed my mother to fulfill our various pending social and family obligations while I will continue meeting my people to know more about the issues concerning them,” he said.
The third main contestant from Nawanshahr, Charanjit Singh Channi of AAP, too maintained that it ‘was a day to relax and thank my workers and supporters.’ Talking about his schedule till the election results, he said he would spend this period on preparing a workable blueprint for initiating developmental activities in the constituency from day one after the announcement of results.
Apparently, like his main opponents, he too seemed sure of his win in the poll. “My father, former Punjab minister late Dilbagh Singh, also used to adopt this practice,” he said while confiding that this was in fact the secret of his success (his father’s) for winning the seat for as many as six times.
The day was not any different for the key contestants in the adjoining Balachaur assembly segment. Congress nominee Darshan Lal Mangupur too spent the day in thanking and expressing his gratitude to his workers and supporters. “I am fully confident of winning the seat and I will continue to redress people’s problems by meeting them on a regular basis in his office,” he said, adding that in the coming days he would be visiting his constituents in the villages to express his gratitude in person for the vote and support shown by them during the poll.
Balachaur sitting SAD MLA and party nominee Chaudhary Nand Lal too found the day refreshing and “better” after a period of such a long and hectic poll schedule. Apart from expressing thanks to his supporters for their love and overwhelming support, he sought their assessment on the poll outcome. “Completion of pending development works would be one of my priorities till the announcement of election results,” he maintained, adding that he would also lay more thrust on improving the lot of women in his constituency in the coming days.
It was a relaxed day for AAP’s Brig (retd) Raj Kumar too. Terming his innings in politics as tremendous and hectic, he planned to spend the days till election results in meeting his electors to seek their opinion in preparing a blueprint for constituency’s development. “I have already procured copies of my party’s various manifestos and will soon start work on them, in consultation with my workers, to have a list of priorities for my constituency,” he said. This former army man is finding his new assignment quite challenging. “But as an Army man, I love challenges and will do my best to come up to the expectations of my constituents,” he maintained.
