No matter how modern we actually become, to know about roots is always a pleasure. Similarly, when on Monday evening, the team of upcoming Punjabi film Sarvann came to Chandigarh, the entire scenario reflected Punjabiyat.
Sarvann, which is a film by Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra’s home production, Purple Pebble Productions, is said to be deeply embedded in the roots of Punjab.
During the team’s visit to city, actors Amrinder Gill, Simi Chahal, producers Madhu Chopra and Sidharth Chopra gave a sneak peek into the thought behind making Sarvann, venturing into Punjabi cinema, and more.
For Madhu, her daughter Priyanka has always been a Punjabi girl at heart as her father late Ashok Chopra was a Punjabi himself.
A lot has already been spoken about the film, and yet there is a concern as to how the film is going to stand different from other films being made in Punjab.
“Even I’m a bit nervous for this,” quips Madhu, “But, one thing which I am quite sure of is that the audience will not be disappointed after watching Sarvann.
“Moreover, the film is not high on dance moves, songs or over emotional scenes…Rather, it is a story which every Punjabi will connect with,” adds Madhu.
Agreeing with Madhu, Amrinder shares that the film has been made in Punjabi language because the script demanded it.
“The conversations and the dialogues in the film demanded to be delivered in Punjabi as the story is embedded here. And I am glad that the makers have taken care of every single nuance through which they have depicted Punjab,” says Amrinder, who will be seen playing a grey character in the film.
Meanwhile, Madhu shares that in future the focus and goal of their production house will be to bring other regional cinema of the country under the spotlight.
“The aim is to strengthen the regional cinema as Priyanka believes that there is so much richness in different regions of Punjab, which is still awaiting exposure.
“So, she is reading various scripts from different regional film industries as she is the one to finalise everything,” she smiles. The film which also features singer-turned actor Ranjit Bawa has been co-produced by Vashu Bhagnani and Deepshika Deshmukh. Directed by Karaan Guliani, the film is hitting theatres worldwide on Lohri this Friday.
