He owes loan worth Rs 4.35 cr to wife and Rs 3.42 lakh to father
Chandigarh: Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday filed his nomination papers for contesting on the Shiromani Akali Dal symbol from Jalalabad assembly constituency, a seat he won by a huge margin in the 2009 by-elections and then in 2012 too. This time he is comparatively relaxed of the legal burdens and is comparatively richer too.
In his affidavit, Sukhbir has mentioned that he is now acquitted from a case of snatching the camera of a mediaperson and causing hurt to a person in Kotkapura in 2006 but with a mention that a criminal appeal in this case is yet pending in the session court.
Interestingly, this millionaire SAD candidate, who showed his total assets worth Rs 72.37 crore with the liabilities of Rs 39.81 crore, does not own any car. He, whoever, proudly discloses his ownership over two tractors- a 2009 model Massy Ferguson and a 2011 model New Holland, evaluated at Rs 5.5 lakh.
As the affidavit shows, Sukhbir doesn’t have a penchant for gold and jewellery as the total worth of ornaments• his possession is Rs nine lakh only but his wife, Harsimrat Kaur, a Union Minister, possesses jewellery worth Rs 6.02 crore.
Significantly, Sukhbir has lost noticeable agricultural land as the value of the land possessed by him in 2012 was Rs 17.59 crore but this time it is of just Rs 1.65 crore. Thanks to the demonetisation, there is major dip in the Sukhbir’s cash-in-hand as he now carries just Rs 25,000.
The worth of the buildings owned by him has also gone up; while these were worth Rs 31.60 crore in 2009 and in 2012 he had declared their value to be more than Rs 48 crore and this time it is worth Rs 53.13 crore.
Sukhbir also owns a palatial house and a stud farm at Badal village, the land for which was gifted to him by his mother, who passed away about six years ago. In his affidavit he has showed the development cost of his huge house in Badal village as Rs 11.06 crore.
Meanwhile, Sukhbir owns a number of commercial buildings at different places, including Chandigarh and Ludhiana. He possesses three residential buildings worth Rs 53 crore. One of such is 2225 square yards Kothi in Sector 9, Chandigarh, (the total worth of it he has claimed Rs 22.93 crore) and the other two are at Balasar in Haryana and at Badal in Muktsar district.
Interestingly, the businessman Sukhbir this time has no government dues to be cleared as all taxes, he claimed to have paid well in time. Sukhbir has showed his equity share in Orbit resorts at the tune of Rs 9.48 crore, In falcon properties Rs 68 lakh, in Dabwali Transport Rs 3.94 crore, in Punjab Animal breeders Rs 1 lakh and in Orbit Aviation just Rs 50,000.
The power couple if calculated jointly holds investment in bonds, debentures and shares in companies as Rs 27 crore, which includes Harsimrat’s equity shares in Orbit Rs as Rs 12 crore.
Interestingly, while Sukhbir has advanced loan of Rs 52 lakh to his in-laws, Harsimrat has given the same favour to Sukhbir of Rs 4.35 crore. While Sukhbir has returned about Rs 73 lakh to his father, still he has to paying back a loan worth Rs 3.42 lakh to him.
Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who used to run a boutique after having diploma in textile in the past, now carries paintings worth Rs 3.40 lakh.
