Chandigarh heritage furniture auctioned in united state. Heritage furniture items from Chandigarh were auctioned for $1.16 lakh (Rs 74.64 lakh) in US on Tuesday. Several creations of Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier that include a library chair from Panjab University (1960); a collapsible single bed designed for PU student halls and residences (1955-1956); a writing table for junior officers of the secretariat (1957-1958); a set of four office armchairs designed for the architects office in the secretariat and administrative buildings (1955-1956) and a folding screen designed for the secretariat, assembly and PU administrative buildings (1957-1958) were sold off in New York by auction house Phillips.This was highlighted by a city-based lawyer Ajay Jagga, in a communication to UT administrator VP Singh Badnore. The lawyer pointed out that the auctioning took place without any resistance from any quarters. He said as mentioned in Article 51-A, of the Constitution of India, one should value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture and safeguard public property.
