Assocham has demanded to avoid the implementation of GST because the information technology (IT) system used for it is not ready and taxpayers will have to face difficulties in adopting the provisions of this new tax system. In a letter to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Assocham said that existing taxpayers have not yet registered themselves on GSTN portal. The main reason behind this is their ignorance about this system. He said that the present tax payers’ current level of transfer on GST remained in the continuous position of the server.Assocham Secretary-General DS Rawat said that there are many questions as to whether the information technology system has been tested properly or will this system work even when the second round of registration in GST will run because it will have a lot of traffic at that time.It is worth noting that at present there are 80 lakh excise duty, service tax and VAT taxpayers out of which about 64.35 lakh taxpayers have transferred to GST network.GST Network (GSTN) is a company providing information technology infrastructure for the GST system. The first phase for the transfer on this system was closed on June 15 and now it will be reopened on June 25. Assocham says that considering GSTN’s preparedness, implementation of GST from July 1 is difficult and we feel that the date of implementation of it should be extended.
