The duo was running the drug racket from across the Indo-Pak border in Fazilka. A joint operation led by STF and commissionerate police on Saturday evening led to the arrest of two international heroine smugglers Sohan Singh, a resident of Jalandhar and Rajkumar alias Raja from Ludhiana and seized 500 grams of heroin each from their possession. The duo had recovered the heroin consignment around four days back and was commuting on scooter to supply it in the state.Addressing a press conference, Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha said that acting on a tip off, the STF and police party of Division number 7 led by Inspector Vijay Kanwar Pal arrested both Sohan Singh and Rajkumar during checking at Punjab Avenue Cantt Road Subhana in Jalandhar. As the duo had agricultiral land in Gulab di Bhaini village situated along the international border in Fazilka district, they used to easily ‘trace’ heroin consignment thrown and kept in their fields from across the border”, Sinha mentioned. Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajinder Singh and Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Special Task Force Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, the Commisioner of Police said, “After getting the consignment from Pakistan, the duo used to supply it to Sohan Singh and Rajkumar, who would further supply it to the rest of the country at higher rates.”Further, the Commissioner of Police said that during the investigation Sohan Singh also revealed that his brother Karnail Singh was arrested in Pakistan on charges of smuggling of gold and was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment. “It was during this period that Karnail developed acquaintance with Naeem, who helped Sohan Singh in running drug chain with heroin from Pakistan”, he added. Similarly, Rajkumar also knew Naeem, as both of them had earlier met in Dubai. The CP said that several cases were already registered against Sohan Singh and Rajkumar, who met each other in jail after being arrested in smuggling cases.Sinha highlighted that after their release from jail both Sohan Singh and Rajkumar revived their links with Naeem and further with Makhan Singh and Chand Singh to set up a drug cartel to push heroine in the state. “With this arrest, the police have been able to break the backbone of drug supply in the state”, he added.
