Rain and thundershowers are likely on Tuesday, the local center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted.The day temperature is expected to come down by 3 degrees and will be around 40 degrees Celsius. “The temperature will dip in the next three days. There is likelihood of light rain till June 8. But the humidity level will increase as monsoon is on the way,” said Surender Paul, Center director.
On Monday, the day temperature was recorded at 43 degree Celsius at the Sector 39-based observatory, while at Chandigarh airport it was 43.3 degrees, four notches above normal for this time of the year. Normal temperature is calculated taking an average of at least three decades.
It, however, was more than two notches lower than that on Sunday, which was recorded as the hottest day of the season at 45.4 degrees Celsius.Humidity was higher on Monday.Due to cloudy conditions, night in city was warmer, as minimum temperature was 30.2 degree Celsius, which was 6 notches above normal. The day temperature in Shimla, a nearby hill station, was 29.4 degrees Celsius.
