Three fishermen were killed on Sunday after a Panama-based cargo ship collided with a fishing boat, 12 nautical miles away from Cochin port.The bulk carrier cargo ship, Amber L was passing through Cochin Minicoy channel early morning at the time of the accident. It collided with the fishing vessel, which had 14 fishermen on board, at around 2.00 am. The ship and its crew members have been detained after the Navy and Coast Guard searched the cargo carrier, Inspector General of Police(Ernakulam Range) P Vijayan told.The 11 injured were rescued by fishermen in another boat. They have been admitted to various hospitals in Kochi and the condition of two of them was stated to be serious, police said.After the collision, the ship dropped anchor at Cochin port at 3.47 am.The ship began its journey from Israel’s Eilat port. The ship has been active since 2000, and weighs 25955 tons.This is the second fatal incident involving a foreign ship in the sea off Kerala coast. Earlier in February 2012, two fishermen were shot dead allegedly by Italian marines on-board an oil tanker Enrica Lexie.
