Batala police claimed to have arrested two persons posing themselves as Vigilance Bureau officials on Wednesday who had duped a grocery shop owner on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Batala Deepak Hilory said that on getting a secret information SHO Ranger Nangal Police Station Mukhtiar Singh erected a check-post near Chaudharywal and apprehended Gurinderjit Singh, a residence of Ghas village and Sawinder Singh, a resident of Muradpur village, who had duped a grocery shop owner Jarnail Singh at Chadharywal village under Ranger Nangal police station on Tuesday and they decamped with grocery worth Rs 8,000 and Rs 13,000 in cash.
He said that Sukhwinder Singh, Sarwinder Singh and their two accomplices Balwinder Singh and Kala Singh went to the shop of Jarnail Singh on the pretext that they were from Vigilance Bureau and wanted to check the grocery articles following somebody’s complaint that the grocer was selling spurious articles.
However, they took grocery worth Rs 8,000 and Rs 13,000 in cash and fled away. The SSP said that they again on Wednesday made a mobile call to Jarnail Singh that the grocery articles were spurious. They demanded Rs one lakh from him for not taking action against him, but the deal was settled in Rs 50,000. However, they were apprehended by police on the way to the grocer.
