Patiala:A major tragedy was averted here on Friday’s evening after a fire broke out in the house located in narrow lanes of Patiala city. As the fire fighters reached the house to douse the flames, gas cylinder blasted injuring three firemen on the spot.
The injured have been identified as Madan Gopal, Amarjit Singh and Rajinder Singh and were immediately taken to the Government Rajindra Hospital for medical treatment.
Those injured have been admitted at Government Rajindra Hospital for medical treatment and their conditions is stated to be out of danger. The blast created panic among the people and many residents of the area fled from the spot thus giving tough time to police to keep situation under control
The fire broke out in a house in Old Sabzi Mandi area and fire tenders rushed to spot immediately.The fire fighters continued the operation for three hours and house was completely gutted.
The Commissioner of Municipal Corporation (MC), Gurpal Singh Chahal reached the spot after getting the information and saw the operations himself.The house belonged to a Punjab Home Guard jawan Inderjit.According to sources, around 4 to 6 gas cylinders were stored in the house when the incident took place.
Municipal Corporation Employees Union, leader Naresh Bobby demanded that fire brigade should have more staff and currently there are just 21 firemen against the requirement of 90.Close shave
