Amritsar:As many as 44 foreign nationals who have completed their sentences are still languishing in Amritsar Central Jail. Out of 44, 30 are Pakistanis, 8 from Bangladesh while one each from Nepal, Nijeria, Myanmar, Uzbekistan, Ghana and Syria.
Amritsar Central Jail Executive Superintendent, Shivraj Singh Nandgarh, stated in an affidavit to the Punjab and Haryana High Court that necessary proceedings had already been completed and names, photos, address has been forwarded to respective high commissioners .
Nangarh also said that as far as deporting of Pakistani prisoners is concerned, the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) will take a final call.
Following this development, a division bench of Punjab and Haryana High Court is learnt to have issued directions to the union government to appear before it on May 8, the next date of hearing and submit its reply.
The Supreme Court had issued directions to all the High Courts in country to ask respective governments of states and UTs falling under their jurisdictions to submit details of under trials in 2015.
Following the directions Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the governments of Punjab and Haryana, in addition to UT Administrator, Chandigarh .
