The Bathinda police today arrested patwari Jagjit Singh and Raja Singh in the case of suicide by a farmer outside the patwarkhana at Sema village eight days ago. A third accused Tarlochan Singh had already been arrested and is now in judicial custody. Following the arrest of all accused, the family of farmer Jaswant Singh, who took his life, cremated the body after eight days today. A police party from Nathana led by ASI Jaidev Singh arrested Jagjit and Raja from the Talwandi Sabo bus stand following a tip-off. The protesters were demanding the arrest of accused patwari Jagjeet Singh as a pre-condition for the cremation of the farmer who had consumed poison on May 10, holding a suicide note accusing the patwari of harassment and blocking his land acquisition payment of Rs 34 lakh.SHO Angrej Singh said that both the accused will be presented to court tomorrow. The three were booked under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (act done by several persons under a common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Bhucho police station.
