Amritsar:Owing to the fear of imposition of model code of conduct in the state, Punjab’s ministers, too, seem to be in a hurry to “expedite” their activities and carve out a niche for themselves in their home turf.
As the fact that how much they did to nurse their constituency in the capacity of an MLA or a minister, will be a million dollar question to be asked by each and everyone from electorate while they are to take to campaigning for ensuing assembly polls. Therefore, all the ministers of the ruling alliance or sitting MLAs of the parties in power appear to be in a hurry to do something remarkable that could put them on a driver’s seat and they would be in a position to ride over those very achievements.
Punjab’s Cabinet Minister of Local Government Anil Joshi, nevertheless, does not appear to be an exception in this regard. To please the voters of his segment-Amritsar (north), from where he is the sitting MLA and seeking re-election as a BJP candidate, he would have hardly left any stone unturned. Though at the fag end of his five-year term as a Cabinet Minister, he has laid foundation stones of at least 20 new projects and also inaugurated an equal number of new ones during the just-concluded month of December alone.
Joshi’s spree of inaugurating or foundation stone laying, however, is still not over as on January 1, he gave a green signal to three new ventures. First of these was inauguration of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Chowk, presumably built at Bhagat Kabir Marg on Majitha road. The Chowk is just outside the ESI hospital and exists since time immemorial, however, its new inauguration took place on January 1 at 11 am.
Second dignified achievement that is likely to bring laurels to him was the distribution of sewing machines to the students of a stitching and sewing center, run by an NGO, named Aastha foundation. The ceremony took place at 12 pm the same day at Arya Samaj Mandir, situated in Indira colony of the holy city. The last, but not the least, activity performed by the Cabinet Minister was the inauguration of LED street light works at Company Bagh, which was done at 4 pm.
