Chandigarh:Filed officers of Agriculture and Revenue Departments have been apprehending creation of ‘Bad blood’ with farmers after receiving orders from Deputy Commissioners of their respective districts, to comply with the orders of National Green Tribunal (NGT) in curbing stubble burning across the state.
Following the directions of NGT, the Punjab government has decided to monitor the fire events across the satellite imaging. The government has roped-in the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), Punjab Agriculture University (PAU), Revenue and Agriculture department to execute the strategy for enforcing the orders. The NGT has also asked the government to register cases against the violators against provisions of the Section 144 of the CrPC and slap Rs 15,000 per head as penalty in shape of Environmental Compensation .
The village level agriculture officer and the patwaris, who have be asked to identity the violator- farmers- and send a report against them to their superiors, are in a fix over the orders. They claimed that no doubt job is priority for them but sending reports against the violators will definitely create ‘bad blood’ among them.
Sources informed that the PPBC will take some more time in executing the drive as the wheat crop will be ready for harvesting in couple of days and only after that the farmers could indulge in burning the stubbles.
Manpreet Singh, Chairman of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), has already said that the men and machinery have been set order to monitor the burning of stubbles. The department has set the system in order to send SMSs to the deputy commissioners, Sub Divisional Magistrates, District development officers, block development officers, patwaris, Agriculture officers and others officers concerned, he claimed.
