Bathinda:A day after a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) worker of Mansa district accused the former Congress MLA Ajitinder Singh Mofar’s son Bikram Singh Mofar’s aides of pressurising him to surrender a contract of washing solar panels of two private solar power plants, the same persons allegedly injured his partner and killed his (partner’s) son at Khiali Chehliyanwali village late on Wednesday night.
Notably, the injured man who lost his son is a former Akali Sarpanch of Khiali Kalan village.
Sensing the gravity of the matter, Mansa Police on Thursday morning booked 18 persons, including 11 by name, and also suspended Jhunir police station SHO Chanan Singh for ignoring the repeated complaints of the victims.
It is pertinent to mention that the victims, stating that the accused were trying to snatch a legally awarded job from them just on the pretext of change of government in the state, had also approached the High Court from where they had brought the protection orders but the district police ignored complying with the HC directions.
The main contractor of the job, Balwinder Singh, in his complaint to the IG, DIG and state Human Rights Commission, had alleged that a number of callers, who claimed themselves to be Bikram Singh Moafar’s men, had been making him threatening calls and directing him to hand over his contract to them or face the consequences.
Claiming that he could identify many of them, Balwinder mentioned that he had written to the officers after Senior Superintendent of Mansa Police failed to take notices of his complaint.
While leveling allegations Balwinder claimed that he brought protection orders from the HC but Mansa SSP asked him to meet the SHO concerned, who further turned a blind eye to the directions. In his complaint, Balwinder Singh also mentioned that one of his two plants’ contractual jobs was snatched by the accused group with also demanding to surrender another one too.
After Balwinder came in media, the alleged gang reached his plant at Khiara Khurd village on Wednesday night. They found Balwinder’s partner Prem Singh, his brother Tarsem and son Sukhwinder coming out of the premises.
In his police complaint, Prem Singh alleged that the goons came in four vehicles and they fired a bullet in his son’s chest with also opening fire at him and his brother. In the incident, Prem also sustained bullet injury. After damaging the victim’s Tata Indica car, the gangsters fled the spot but the victims identified a majority of them.
As the matter reached Chief Minister Office, Mansa SSP was asked to take strict action against the accused. Finding the SHO negligent in performing his duties, the SSP at first suspended him and opened departmental inquiry against him.
Acting upon the statement of the injured, Jhunir police booked all 18 accused of whom, Sewak Singh, Jagga Singh, Binder Singh, Jagga Singh, Satnam Singh, Aman Sandhu, Deep Sandhu, Aman Verma, Sarabjeet Singh, Balwant Singh, Gurpal Singh and Aman Singh were identified by the victim.
The police were in process to arrest all accused with also tracing the remaining six unidentified persons. A case against all of them was registered under different sections of the IPC including Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and also the Arms Act.
DSP Sardulgarh Narender Singh said, during the preliminary investigations involvement of Mofar’s son couldn’t be ascertained but he mentioned that the police would go into details and if he was found guilty, action would be taken accordingly.Ajitinder Singh Mofar and his son Bikram Mofar were not available for their versions.
